March 2023 TNR
On Tuesday, March 7, veterinarian George Karatheopoulos and his team came to Hydra to neuter 29 cats.
* 24 females and 5 males. 6 cats from Neos Kosmos, 6 cats from Rema Kamini area, 7 cats from Arts school area, 1 from Ypapanti area, 2 from port area and 6 cats from Bouagia area .
All cats were given antiparasite treatment and microchipped.
* The cost was 1.643,01 € included VAT and it was covered by HydraArk.
3 sick cats (1 from the port, one from Kamini and on from Mueusm) were sent to a vet’s clinic in Athens. More news soon.
These sessions are massively important to our mission to control the cat population on Hydra, which exploded during Covid, when we were unable to perform any neutering sessions at all for two years.
The other half of our mission is to care for the sick and hungry street cats on our island. The TNR sessions are costing us on average 50 euros per cat, and our funds are running low. We have cats in need of veterinary attention and we must also purchase food through the spring.
Funds are running low, and so we are asking for your help. Please consider a donation to help us continue our efforts to help Hydra’s street cats.
