Snowball’s Adventures in Stockholm

Here is the adoption story of the cat I adopted in October 2022.

After spending more than a week at Irini’s vet office and then another ten days in the home of a volunteer from the organization Nine Lives in Athens I travelled to Athens to pick her up and take her back to Stockholm. The travelling went very smoothly, no peeing in her travelling bag or difficulty taking her in and out of the bag at the airport… Seemed like she understood that she was better off with me than in the streets :).

After spending about one week at home checking stuff out and getting to know our other pets (one cat and one dog) it was like pulling out an electrical plug or something and she spent 99% of her time sleeping in a duvet (the rest eating). She was initially very tired from life on the streets, surgery and a lot of big changes, quite understandable. Little by little she gained more physical energy and confidence, started playing and socializing more and more. She spent 3 months indoors before eventually going outside, and the first few times she was terrified of it as she thought that she might have to live outside again :/. Little by little she learned that she can come and go as she wants. She was named Snowball because of her goofy personality and funny ways around snow :). We live on the ground floor of a building in a calm neighborhood and both cats spend a lot of time outdoors, especially during the warmer months (warm in Sweden = 10 degrees, haha).

Most tricky thing about the adoption was the other pets at home getting used to another pet (quite common and expected but still). She was super cool towards the other pets at home from day one though, not causing any trouble at all. Same thing with the litter box, she got it from day one, no need to work on anything really which was maybe a bit unexpected.

To sum things up, she’s the cutest little cat, super friendly and very well behaved from day one, maybe more so than our other beloved pets that we’ve had since they were puppies or kittens. She gets along just fine with everyone she meets really, very sociable even around dogs that she doesn’t know. Initially she had a lot of cute behaviors that were maybe more connected to the habit of “working for food” than anything else, but as time passes she has gotten more and more confident and catlike :). Just wanted to check in again, and thank you for all the help getting her off the street. She’s made so much progress, both physically and mentally since then.

Best regards,
Louise (and Snowball) 🙂

WE THANK YOU LOUISE! IF ONLY THEY WERE MORE LOUISES IN THE WORLD!
